‘Teach kids to grow what you want them to eat’

People looking to introduce their kids to the benefits of fruit and veg have been advised to teach the children to grow their own food.

According to Examiner.com, this is a fun way of encouraging little ones to take an interest in their diet.

It suggested starting with a simple plot of just a few plants and said planting varieties native to the area should help boost their chances of success.

The article added that those new to gardening could pick up tips from the American Horticultural Society and the Washington Gardener to help them make the best of their yard or greenhouse.

It also gave its own hints of keeping the fruit and vegetables colourful to maintain children‘s interest and choosing a sunny spot to make sure the food has as much nutritious energy as possible.

“When selecting the location for a garden, remember that fruit and vegetables need roughly six to eight hours of direct sunlight each day,” the online resource stated.

It has been widely noted that growing fruit and vegetables has become more popular in the US since first lady Michelle Obama broke ground on her own kitchen garden at the White House.
