A southern California soil manufacturer has suggested the cool mornings and warm afternoons in June are the ideal time to grow plants.
Oxnard-based Agromin explained horticulture lovers looking to introduce tropical varieties should do so over the next month.
It said the conditions are ideal for transplanting things like banana trees, orchids and palms as the stress is reduced by the mild weather.
Giving tips for successfully transplanting a tree, the firm said the hole should be at least twice the size of the specimen‘s root system.
Once positioned properly, it advises filling in the gap with a mix of soil and conditioner, which should then be pressed down firmly and hydrated.
It also suggests applying a two to three-inch layer of mulch to retain water.
“The soil should be moist at all times for the first three to four weeks following transplanting,” the firm said.
