A garden and greenhouse expert has given some tips on growing plants indoors.
Toledo Botanical Gardens horticulturalist Jonathan Milbrodt told Bignews.biz that those working under glass should only used bagged potting mixes and never soil from outside.
This is because the earth from the garden is not sterile and could result in the grower losing one of the main advantages of greenhouse growing.
Meanwhile, containers should not be too large or too small for the plant. A large plant in a tiny container has no room to grow and will be stifled, while a smaller specimen in a big pot will not have the root penetration to reach the water, which automatically sinks to the bottom.
Those growing in the house instead of the greenhouse should place plants near a south-facing window to ensure they get enough light, while watering should only be done when the soil feels dry to the touch.
