How to make fertiliser in the kitchen

Gardeners looking to add some life to their plants can do so without spending a fortune on expensive fertilisers, it has been asserted.

A simple and cost effective solution can be found in the kitchen, according to 6abc.com.

The website advises a mixture of two tablespoons of white vinegar and a quart of water can help feed flowers.

It says they love acidic soil and, because the DIY plant feed is mineral-rich, it can also be used on houseplants.

Varieties growing under glass should be treated with a mix of one tablespoon of vinegar in a gallon of water once every couple of weeks, it suggests.

Other ideas include introducing used coffee grounds into the soil, which is states makes a “great plant fertiliser”.

Crushed eggshells are another hot tip offered by the website as being useful for nourishing cherished varieties.

Meanwhile, reviewjournal.com suggests gardeners who find their mint plants seem to be damaged with no obvious sign of disease or pests may wish to keep their eyes open for cats – the plants are similar to ingredients used in catnip.
