Ocenee Public Library offers free gardening lessons

South Carolina greenhouse owners are being offered free gardening classes at the Walhalla branch of the Ocenee Public Library after the book repository struck up a partnership with Clemson University.

Classes are due to start on September 13th, with the first seminar titled Plant Wars: Nature vs Alien. The classes will run until June 2012.

Manager of Walhalla library Stacie Powell said she was delighted with the Clemson University Master Gardeners partnership.

"September's class will be taught by Darlene Sprowls, a graduate of the South Carolina Master Gardener 2011 class," Stacie said.

"[Darlene] has a passion for conservation, native plants and keeping Lake Keowee and surrounding areas ecologically sound," she added.

Some of the seminars being run are Gardening in the Upstate, Soil Amendments and Fertilizers, Rain Gardens and Gardening with Children.

Ocenee Public Library isn't the only provider of free gardening lessons, however, as Orange County also offers a University of California Master Gardener program, which provides gardening and horticulture information to local residents.
