Garden and greenhouse lovers in the San Jose area have been given a number of dates for their diary this week.
According to the Examiner, today (August 3rd) marks the beginning of National Farmers‘ Market week, which should see a number of events being held around the country.
Growers can also attend a free talk by expert Leon Glicenstein at the Santa Clara Valley Orchid Society on Wednesday, the online resource reported.
The topic of discussion will be the orchids of Costa Rica and the evening begins at 19:00 local time.
Gardeners who like to focus on the environment may also enjoy the compost class taking place at Almaden Community Centre from 10:00 this Saturday.
The free event will focus on how to produce fertiliser for use in the garden and greenhouse.
According to the website, it will take place on the same day as Fool-Proof Flower Arranging, which will run from 13:30 at Guadalupe River Park and Garden.
Participants will be asked to pay $10 if they are a member and $20 if not to be taught how to grow and display beautiful flowers.
The Examiner recently reported on a local farmers‘ market, where the average distance travelled from produce to stall is 63 miles.
