Greenhouse and garden growers have been advised against growing mint in the ground.
The herb is easily grown, but should be kept to growing in pots, according to the Examiner.
It explained the reason for this is the fact it will spread and can even take over the lawn due to its adaptability.
Containers should be around one foot across the top by one foot deep, the website suggested.
“Mint appreciates an evenly moist soil and a good drenching every now and again,” it read.
However, watering should only be carried out on fairly dry soil as the herb prefers not to be overly soaked.
It will do better in the sun and should help ward off pesky ants with its scent.
Gardeners should be careful when harvesting not to pick off every leaf on the branch as they will struggle to grow back.
